Four Amberley-based F111 strike
reconnaissance jets played a starring role in the Centenary of Federation Parade and
Flypast in Sydney on New Years Day, returned at low level to give residents of the
Gold and Sunshine Coasts and Brisbane a visual treat. The four jets, flying in close
formation, descended over Coolangatta at approximately 1540 and flew to Point Lookout,
before ascending for a high altitude flight to Noosa. At
approximately 1600 the formation flew south from Noosa at low level, passing over coastal
towns and the tip of Bribie Island before arriving over Brisbane at 1609 and following the
river through the CBD en route to RAAF Base Amberley near Ipswich.
The formation was led by Wing Commander Pete Lloyd, Commanding
Officer of
1 Squadron.
ADMINO at No 1 Squadron FLTLT Erika Langham, said the flypast
would not have been possible without the efforts of the technicians, ground staff and
pilots who volunteered their time for the flypast.
"Everyone put in a lot of work for the flypast that was
essential for the success of the event," she said.
